Riding in the car with a child for this length of time and distance really puts your parenting under a microscope. One minute, you feel like a rockstar for getting laundry done and hair looking fabulous then the next minute you're walking through the parking lot of Days Inn to Dennys shoving quarters at the child to donate to a machine made for her to NOT win a toy (all so you can find one moment of peace).
It's time to get out of North Carolina. Raleigh has been good to us but even my ability to stay in places that aren't the cleanest is coming to an end. One little stop at the front desk to send this post card. I bet you can't guess who it's going to!
There may have been a few death defying stunts to get to this sign but we made it!
Comfort Suites...YES YOU ARE, what's in a name? Apparently everything! It is so interesting making reservations: in a hurry, on the road and through websites. You just never know what you'll get. This one was a jackpot! It may sound silly but even this little partition makes a huge difference when you need a little distance from a tiny human and, to be fair, when a tiny human needs space from me!
Lexington, South Carolina seems to be a very small place. I saw an awesome children's museum in Columbia, SC but I could not muster up the strength to even tell the Human Bear much less venture to another museum in the middle of a city.
Once we were checked in to the hotel, we were told they wouldn't have much opened on a Sunday but there is the Lizard's Thicket...hhmmm OK.
The Human Bear has clearly missed home and some soul food/country cooking. This is the joy that good cornbread brings after being out of Louisiana for 27 days now (and 8 more still to go)!
When we left home, the Human Bear only had less than half of a front tooth. I can trace the length of our trip by her teeth. haha
It was so hot that I actually got my exhausted behind in a suit and in the pool (b/c it's totally relaxing to swim with the Human Bear shouting out orders, organizing games, having you do handstands and dive for rings...at least more relaxing than sitting outside in a heat wave). Our hotel has a pool inside but their "sister hotel" (says the front desk lady) across the street, The Quality Inn, is accessible with our room key. Not sure what's going on with hotels these days but we needed sun and fresh air so running across the highway in swimsuits we went!
Purrmaids: Yes, that is an entire series of books and the Human Bear has finished all 5 on this trip. I don't know where she finds these things before they get popular but even the public library hadn't heard of them much less have them to check out (b/c that would have been easy and cheap). I had to go to Amazon and when I went to order #6, I realized it needed to be preordered b/c they haven't been printed yet. Maybe I should let her pick the Powerball #s next time!
And for all of those concerned about how a Purrmaid would look swimming, no need to fear! I was shown the Human Bear's interpretation today!
She ALWAYS knows when I'm trying to get a picture and then she fussy faces it up just to ruin my joy.
I can be a stubborn one when it comes to saving money (no wonder Jason and I work so well together) but I'm starting to see how much the 20 extra bucks is TOTALLY worth it. We enjoyed dinner and then a treat on their awesome patio. The breakfast was WAY better and offered more than the cheaper hotels too so I don't have to stop the car an hour later for a hungry tiny human. New searches will all include looking for the Comfort Suites!
Ice Cream Twix!! The healthy eating has taken a turn along with the working out. We are both really excited to see Jason and get back on a somewhat normal schedule:)
