We will be long gone for the the big NYC Pride Fest so we found out there was a great River Towns Pride Trolley event happening just a few minutes away from Yonkers. It was the first sunny day we have had so far, so let's get dressed and ready!
This was such a great idea. The trolley rides would take us between two different towns along the Hudson River (Hastings and Dobbs Ferry) and each participating restaurant or store would have some kind of deal or crafting sections. The whole day was a great family friendly experience and we had a blast!
We started at the library for Drag Queen Story Hour and then popped in an out of too many spots to count. Here are just a few of our favorites:)
Draw what Pride means to you:)
Our new BFF: Shay D'Pines
I was really impressed with the turn out. This picture does not do it justice. The room filled up more than this and there was barely any standing room behind me b/c it was packed with parents.
Of course while waiting on the trolley after Drag Queen Story Hour there were just great trails to let the Human Bear run out some energy. Green places where you can breathe and run are still my favorite and they are everywhere here.
Trolley Stop!
These excited faces are READY for some Pride Bingo!
"Shay, don't miss the ride!"
Each participating spot would give out stickers once you went to their place or did the craft at their spot. Dana and the Human Bear were intense about the competition!
Of course Dana knows the owners of one of the restaurants on the list so we stopped at Bread and Brine first to have lunch. The environment was great. They had a live DJ and we did NOT disappoint with the dancing.
These two never stop moving...EVER!
Saint George Bistro had a cute photo backdrop and a cookie decorating station!
Who knew that edible markers existed? I am now starting to feel sluggish from the amount of sugar that has been ingested the last few days. We are pushing through though...the things we do for good vacation!
Now that I look at this picture, I am fairly certain that cookie is in my purse or another bag half eaten...gross. The packing up of the car for the ride home should be an interesting adventure in itself!
Because all of the stops with hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, and cookies weren't enough: right before catching the trolley back to our starting point there was a marshmallow (is that always how that word has been spelled?) decorating station. You know it's bad when the Human Bear can't finish a treat but she gave it her best effort.
This is the face of a happy, exhausted mom...it's early and we didn't finish bingo but I was done!
I would highly recommend this event. The day started off with talking about the benefits of building empathy in children through open communication and community with people that are different from yourself. I loved this whole event from start to finish and thought it was a great learning experience for us all.
Awesome...i'm exhausted just reading about it...
