Just easing our way into the end of the trip with a little brunch day. My OCD planning and organization applies mostly to the Human Bear and things we may need on the trip to make it less stressful to deal with a tiny human on the road for over 30 days.
What does NOT get must attention is my own stuff. I just assumed when I washed this outfit (that is cheap and probably shouldn't be washed in a home washer/dryer) it was good to go. When I put it on for our brunch day, I realized it no longer reached my shoes as it previously did. Dana said it looked fine so I'm rolling with it but if this looks ridiculous, there's just not much that can be done at this point. haha
We started the morning at the gym first and this is what happens when Uncle Jimmy is in charge of the Human Bear...cookies with breakfast and then wonders why she is hyper. Oh, Oh, I have a guess...pick me, pick me! Check out that hair do.
Dana asked if we could have a brunch before we pack up and head out so some of her friends could meet the Human Bear. I said sure and she picked a restaurant that a friend owns...she apparently knows every bar and restaurant owner in NYC and ALL surrounding areas!
Our small brunch consisted of an entirely full back room and around 37 people that showed up! Not so small of a brunch but it was a blast.
Cousins!
My BR peeps that now live in NYC. Thank you so much for coming out. It was great catching up.
These two are only a year apart. I love the difference in height.
I'm not sure if the kids had more fun or the adults. This was such a fun spot (and delicious, if you go for brunch I had a portobello benedict that was AMAZING) and so many great people made long drives or train rides to get to Yonkers. Thank you everyone and especially Dana for putting it together.
Jason and I really do try and do our best to teach the Human Bear about the real world. The only problem is that she has never lived in it! She got multiple gifts yesterday just because she was in NY and they were excited to meet her (what? that doesn't happen). And these gifts weren't little gifts...I'm about to make her pay for gas!
Thank you Esther for always giving the Bear gifts that require her to use her brain:) I love it.
When your favorite Irishman asks if you'd like to come and sit on his patio and enjoy the weather...you say YES and learn as much as you can about Ireland (while simultaneously planning your trip stays with his relatives for your future travels). Meet James, the man that can't say no to the Human Bear. He set her up with food and candy in his living room and told her to order anything she wanted to watch on the TV.
He and his roommate, Majella, both got that card full of money for the Human Bear and then each showed up separately with bags full of mostly Irish candy.
We learned that we need to make toast, melt butter on it and then put these beans on top...FOR BREAKFAST! That's what he was raised on and we will try it once we get home and settled.
James may have not only spoiled the Human Bear!
And then we hear an ice cream truck go by...with VERY STRICT instructions that she shouldn't get anything but if she MUST then it should be something to save in the freezer for after dinner. This is how she returned. I gave up on the day after this situation.
She's pretending to enjoy the view but I'm fairly certain she is trying not to vomit while crashing hard core from her sugar high.
I had to fight a few different people to get us out of there and to sleep for the night! On to the next day and it's time to make sure the car is ready to roll. Can we all just take a moment to appreciate this?
It may not look that great to you but there is a fierce system working here.
Operation Visit Family and Wear Out the Bear!
We had to make extra time for the cousins to hang out that never get to see each other so it was time to find a cool park. This place was amazing. There is a splash pad ON A BEACH! We weren't prepared for that and it costs extra but I would def go back there if we had more time!
Sadly, this is the only picture I got of the girls together today. haha Whoopsie!
The treats never end. This place had more options than I've EVER seen in a shop that I don't even know what to call it b/c they had flavored water, flavored ice, italian ice, hard ice, soft ice, hard ice cream, soft serve ice cream, sundaes, coke floats, root beer floats and those are only the things I could remember.
Finally, we are filling up on our Irish goodies we were told are a MUST to get before we leave town. Along with Mushy Peas (which I will forever say with an Irish accent)!
and just what we need to round out the last night, more things being delivered to the house as gifts...there are no words. We will definitely miss it here. I must admit as much as I pick at the Human Bear, I have been spoiled as well with friends, fun, food and drinks. Thank you so much Wesley-Higgins for letting us make your home our home for a long time:) Love y'all!
