So it all started when Jason said, "I really want to go to Enterprise, Alabama for my 41st birthday!" Haha just kidding, but look how cute he is.
Mellow Mushroom for a b-day dinner. You never know what you'll get in a small town but, in Enterprise, it was a great environment! In every place we went, it was like Cheers. Everyone knew each other and asked about their families. We seemed to be obvious weevil tourists, not sure how it was so noticeable...
On to the real motivation for this silliness...Since COVID-19 hit, CBS Sunday Morning has become our weekly family church. The amount of cool adventures we've seen and noted while watching the show is unlimited. If you don't automatically think Enterprise, Alabama for spring break, maybe next time you should!
Here's the backstory for those interested:
For those of you that would never actually click, listen or read any of that...basically, boll weevil's infested the cotton crops so they switched to peanuts and found success after they pivoted. After their success, the town made boll weevil's their mascot. Currently, they are creating a community art project where different businesses create their own fiberglass weevil to celebrate the history of the town. After watching the segment, the human Bear said, "we should go and see if we can find all 27 of them!" So...here we are because we are amazing parents.
Before we jump in to the weevil hunt, just think: How can you not laugh when you stop at the eye care center and they have a boll weevil out front named Dr. Ima C. Betterman? If that didn't make you giggle, this is not the blog for you and you probably don't like me very much in real life either.
There were lots of laughs even though it was raining the ENTIRE time we were out finding the weevils. I think we embraced the lesson of the town by making the best of a situation and it all worked out in the end with some fun family memories. We found all the weevils but Benny, the "mobile" weevil. More to come on Benny later.
How do you find the weevils you ask?
Time to: Meet the Weevils
Don't be confused. This is NOT a weevil but when you see a house for sale that says they will throw in a free pizza if you purchase the house...you gotta stop and consider! Maybe we just need some lunch at this point.
We passed up the house pizza and hit a panera bread before getting back to the hunt!
Enterprise has a really nice downtown strip. Of course, smack in the middle of it is a statue and I bet you can't guess what the statue is holding up over their head...I'll give you three guesses! Don't scroll until you used all your guesses. I bet you didn't get it...
We ran into this officer at the beginning of our adventure to be informed about two tragic weevil losses. I didn't want to start off on a sad note, so the weevil updates are below.
The human Bear made this on her phone to recognize the two fallen weevils...
I can't just roll out on a sad note either, so let's take the energy up. In celebration of graduation season approaching, congrats to all graduates: including William "Bo" Weevil on finishing up at Enterprise State Community College! Way to go!!
To be continued...Benny the "mobile" weevil was traced to a couple of places by the excellent detective skills of the birthday boy. Benny in fact DOES NOT live in this house although it is on the website of the owner of the insurance company that sponsors Benny. I can't tell you how we know this. You just have to trust us. haha We have confirmed that much but have not located his actual whereabouts. We have notified the officer and will follow up with any future findings.
If you're still reading at this point, I need you to get some spring break plans! Get out into the world. It can be a really fun place to be when you go looking for it:)
Another great adventure with the 3 bears! Have a happy holiday and break from the grind. We love y'all!
